The Family Forest Impact Foundation values America’s family forests and supports family forest owners.

Across the United States, private family landowners own the largest share of forestland. In fact, 290 million acres of forestland are owned by families. Family-owned forests provide vital resources — wildlife habitat, rural jobs, natural carbon sequestration, clean water, and sustainable wood supplies — and most family woodland owners want to actively promote healthy woods. Unfortunately, many face challenges such as high cost and a lack of available information and can’t currently tap into the resources available to help.

The Family Forest Impact Foundation is the path to these resources.

About Us

The Family Forest Impact Foundation is an affiliate of the American Forest Foundation. The American Forest Foundation established the Family Forest Impact Foundation in 2019 to create new opportunities for family forest owners to get financial and technical assistance to steward their woods.

Family Forest Carbon Program

The Family Forest Impact Foundation administers the Family Forest Carbon Program, which pays woodland owners to carry out specific activities on their land. Those activities enhance wildlife habitat and water quality, while also increasing the carbon stored on the landscape. Every year, we measure the carbon on the landscape, based on a sample of enrolled properties, and sell it to businesses, providing funding for the overall program.
